Looking for DIY Gutter Installation Tips

Hey everyone! I got a quote a while back for gutter installation, and it was around $6,000, which feels outrageous. I'd like to try installing them myself to save some cash. I'm hoping for some affordable product recommendations and general advice on how to get started with this project. I'm just a girl with a dream and no clue where to start!

If you're going the DIY route, definitely invest in good materials and make sure you have the right tools. Borrow or rent what you can, and check out some YouTube videos—they're super helpful! This way, you'll save a bunch compared to hiring someone.

I once did this for my garage, and to be honest, they look a bit rough and leak occasionally. But hey, it's better than having no gutters! It wasn't too hard, but the seams and sealing are tricky spots. Grab a couple of friends and some extra ladders to help out. If you can, buy the longest pieces you can manage for easier handling.

Yeah, if you can find one of those seamless machines, that might make it a cleaner job! I ended up paying $800 last year to have it done properly, and it was worth the cost for the peace of mind.

I've run a gutter company for years, and while installation can be straightforward, you'll need some specific tools and a handy friend to help. The quality of materials at places like Home Depot might not compare to professional-grade supplies, which can really make a difference. If your house has many corners, consider hiring a pro. But you can often find companies that deliver the whole gutter setup to your door, which is super convenient.

Honestly, unless you're pretty confident in your DIY skills, this might be better left to the pros. They have machines that create gutters on-site, which minimizes the seams that could later leak. But if you're okay with a less-than-perfect look, grab some friends and give it a shot!

You might want to shop around for better quotes—anything under $2,000 is totally reasonable for a pro to handle seamless installations. They're easier to work with, especially when you're up high on a ladder. Just my two cents!

I went with PVC gutters for my first house, and they worked like a charm. I found them easier to install than metal with less need for specialized tools. Just a thought if you want a simpler start!
