Looking for Fire Rated Sliding Glass Doors for a Shed Office

I'm planning to convert a 16x20 tuff shed into an office, but I just learned that my location in Southern California is in a high fire zone, which means there are stricter requirements for materials I can use. The salesman informed me that the only door option they offer is a standard 6-panel door, but they will leave an opening for me to install my own door. I really want a sliding glass door and have been having trouble finding fire-rated options. Am I going about this the wrong way? I thought places like Lowe's or Home Depot would have these, but now I'm questioning if I need to source the glass separately or something. With the new construction around me, I didn't expect this to be such a hurdle.

Getting a fire-rated sliding glass door can be tricky, especially if you're in a high fire zone. Honestly, those large glass panels can get really expensive and aren't usually found at big box stores like Lowe's or Home Depot. You might want to consider working with a glazing company that specializes in fire-rated installations. They'll have the right options that meet the code requirements, as it's more than just replacing a standard door with glass.

Make sure to double-check your fire maps, as they just updated them this year. Some areas that were considered high fire risks may have changed status. It could be worth looking into local regulations. If you're just focusing on light in your shed, consider using a fire-rated door with an additional storm door, leaving the regular door open while you’re working. That could help you meet safety standards while still getting some sunlight in!

Thanks for the suggestion! I may look into that to ensure I can still utilize the space without compromising on safety.
