Hey everyone! My partner and I are excited to be buying our first home! We're currently dealing with bare concrete in the living and dining rooms, which we don't mind too much for now. However, we realize that concrete isn't the best when it comes to heat retention and we want to protect it from any damage. We're curious if there are any 'gels' or sealants we could apply to safeguard the concrete for the time being. Ultimately, we want to install beautiful wood flooring, but that has to wait until we can afford it. Any suggestions?

Honestly, why not just add some nice tiles over the concrete? I’m kind of over wood floors at this point, and tiles can look great! Plus, they’re super easy to maintain.
You might want to consider vinyl plank or tile. They're pretty affordable, easy to install, and often come with padding already included, so you can lay them right over the concrete. It's a solid short-term solution!
You could also think about staining and sealing the concrete. If you ground it down a bit, it can even look a lot like terrazzo. And don't worry too much about damaging the concrete—it's pretty tough; you can just live on it until you're ready to put down wood flooring. To keep things cozy, maybe add some area rugs!
