Hey everyone! I'm excited to start a woodworking project with my grandpa, and I plan to build a queen bed frame together. I've got access to his workshop, which is great, but he needs the dimensions for the bed frame first. Since I'm not very experienced in woodworking, I'm on the hunt for any free plans or templates that lay out the dimensions and maybe some guidance on the joinery style to make it easier to take apart later if necessary. Any links or advice would be hugely appreciated!

Here’s a quick visual reference of the style I think would work well for you! It’s important to visualize what you want to create before diving in. You can check out resources on woodworking for similar designs.
For a queen mattress, you’re looking at about 80x60 inches in size. When building the frame, it’s smart to add an extra couple of inches in each direction for tucking in sheets and accommodating any small variations in measurements—the more common approach is to add about 2-3 inches overall. Just keep in mind that the actual dimensions of the wood pieces will depend a lot on the hardware and the wood type you choose. If you're using 3x3 posts, your side rails will likely need to be around 83 inches long, giving you the right clearance. It’s also a good idea to have some center support if you're going with a platform bed. Try searching for 'contemporary queen bed frame plans' online; you'll find plenty of resources there!
Why not just grab a tape measure and get the exact dimensions instead of looking for a template? It might be simpler than you think!
