Looking for French Vocabulary Resources for Woodworking Jobs

Hey everyone! I recently moved to France and I'm trying to learn the essential vocabulary for woodworking so I can apply for jobs in that field. I was wondering if anyone here is from a French-speaking country or has learned French specifically for working in a woodworking company? I've started watching some French YouTube videos about woodworking, but I find them a bit scattered and not as focused as I need. I'm looking for resources that could help with job-specific terms. If you have any recommendations, especially anything you used during your training or apprenticeship, please share! Thanks in advance!

After moving here from the US and starting out in menuiserie, I found that my French vocabulary is pretty much all woodworking-related now! It was a bit daunting at first, but working on site helped a lot. Just try to keep practicing while you're working. It pays off!

Did you mostly work for a company, or was it more independent work? How did the language barrier play out for you?

You should definitely check this site: https://www.lairdubois.fr. It’s a great community hub for woodworking enthusiasts—professionals and amateurs. You’ll find tons of vocabulary just by browsing around, and the members there are really helpful if you have questions. Good luck!

Merci! I’ll explore that site, sounds promising!

Hey! I'm a French carpenter with a decade of experience. I totally get where you’re coming from! You can find some great resources on Wikipedia for woodworking vocabulary in French. For example, look at these glossaries: the joinery one and the carpentry one. They’re pretty detailed but might not cover everyday terms. Additionally, I recommend searching "vocabulaire illustré de la menuiserie" on Google Images; you’ll find tons of visuals that can help a lot with learning the specific terms used in the field. Also, knowing the names of tools is equally important, so check out "outils du menuisier" for pictures of the tools you'll be working with. Let me know if you need anything specific!

Thanks for the info! I’ll definitely check out the glossaries and the images. Visual aids seem like a smart way to learn!
