Hey everyone! I'm in need of some advice for my gardening setup. I've been using an old IKEA desk on my balcony as a gardening station, but it's rotting and sinking, so it's time for an upgrade. I want to keep the legs because they're still in good shape, but I need a new tabletop. Ideally, I want something affordable, lightweight, and weather-resistant since I live in the Pacific Northwest where it gets a lot of rain, and it occasionally dips below freezing.
Considerations: I'm looking for options that allow me to screw in the leg hardware, and I'm trying to find materials that won't rot in the wet climate. Should I go for a used workbench, or is there a specific tabletop material that would work best?

I get what you mean about wanting something sturdy yet light. If plywood sounds too heavy, maybe consider composite materials? They’re often lighter and still hold up against moisture. Just make sure whatever you choose can fit your current legs securely!
You might want to look into getting a centipede stand along with a sheet of 2-inch XPS foam. It’s super portable, but just keep in mind the wind if you plan on leaving it out there all the time. For the top, if you want something durable, outdoor plywood might be your best bet, but it can be heavy. It’s a balancing act between weight and longevity in the PNW conditions!
