I'm trying to figure out how to landscape my half-acre lot which has a steep hill. It gets very hot here, there's plenty of sun, and while rain is scarce, I do have the option to irrigate a bit. I can't use trees and terracing isn't possible because of a drainage easement located 15 feet underground. The slope itself is around 30 degrees. I'm wondering if I should stick to one type of plant, mix it up, or design a more creative planting scheme. I'm considering using ice plants, but I'm open to suggestions!

Just to add, the wind on my hill is pretty strong at night, which is a concern. I've been thinking about how landscape fabric could help with weeds and soil erosion. Has anyone used jute net instead? I see lots of places around me using wedelia, which is invasive and not the best choice.
I'm in Hawaii! I thought ice plants could be my go-to but why do you suggest avoiding them and landscape fabric? I'm leaning towards them for now.
Before diving in, where exactly are you located? It's often best to use native groundcover that can handle exposed slopes. Ice plants and landscape fabric can sometimes cause problems rather than solve them.
