Looking for Last-Minute Tips on Finishing Our Basement

Hey everyone! We've done our research and collected multiple quotes, so we're close to choosing a proposal to finish our 600 sq ft basement in Queens, NYC. This will also include adding a full bathroom and a split unit for heating and cooling. Before we go ahead and finalize everything, I wanted to check in with the community to see if there are any last-minute tips, suggestions, or warnings about things we should watch out for or include in the renovation. Thanks in advance for your help!

I noticed you have a concrete masonry unit (CMU) foundation. Just curious about how you plan to handle the exterior walls once the finishing is done. They're important for insulation and moisture control!

Make sure to check for any past water issues before you start. If you’ve faced moisture problems in the past, it’s crucial to address those before finishing the basement, even if it’s been dry lately.

Thankfully, we haven’t had any issues! We even made it through some severe storms since we moved in, and the basement has stayed dry, which is one reason we waited to begin this process.
