Hey everyone! After completing a few small projects, I've realized I really need a miter saw. Right now, I'm using a circular saw, but it's starting to feel too limiting. I'm on the hunt for a compact and lightweight miter saw that also comes with a stand. Just a heads up, I don't have a workshop; all my gear is stored in my cellar, and I only take it out when I need to work. Any advice on what I should look for to make the best choice? Thanks a ton!

Consider checking out track saws! They’re super versatile and can handle wide cross cuts and long rip cuts. Plus, track saws usually do a better job with dust control. You might find yourself needing a table saw later, but a track saw can definitely cover both kinds of cuts.
So, between choosing a miter saw and a radial arm saw, I’d suggest going with a 12” sliding miter saw. Radial saws can handle bigger pieces but aren’t as common anymore. Plus, they take up more space and need to be stationary, which might not work for you since you’ll be moving your gear around. A miter saw is a better fit for your setup!
If you're already using certain brands like Dewalt or Makita, it might be smart to stick with those. They all have solid miter saw options. Also, while you can buy basic stands, building something on wheels could make it easier to move around when you need to work.
