Hey everyone! I'm in the market for a new mortise chisel, ready to move on from my low-end Harbor Freight version. I'm hoping to find something solid for $40 or less. Any recommendations?

Definitely check out Narex! They offer some solid mortise chisels that fit within your budget. I've heard great things about them from other users in the same price range.
If you're okay with spending a little more, consider the Ray Isles chisels—they're really well-regarded and perform wonderfully. But if you're sticking to the budget, Narex is your best bet for quality without breaking the bank.
You might find some good deals on older Japanese mortise chisels on eBay. They can be really affordable and perform surprisingly well, plus you can often snag them for under $30! Just keep in mind that if you're looking to build a matching set, it could take some time.
Good point! I’ve seen some great vintage options pop up. Just need to keep an eye out for the ones that are worth it.

Thanks for the tip! I'll take a closer look at Ray Isles.
