Looking for Non-Flowering Ground Cover Alternatives

Hi everyone! I've been searching high and low for some ground cover plants and need your expertise. I'm trying to find options that either have very small flowers that won't attract insects, or bloom when insects aren't around. I have a fish and wildlife pond with a cascading water feature, and the area around it has become a bit of a jungle with grass and nettles taking over. The soil quality is poor since the garden was remodeled a few years ago, and mowing it is almost impossible!

I worry about wasps due to a phobia, and I'd rather not encourage bees either. I've tried Lamb's Ears before but they just got overwhelmed by the grass, and while Winter Flowering Heather was great for a year, it didn't make it through to the next. Any suggestions for resilient ground cover plants that can handle shady conditions and poor soil would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Have you thought about 'Mind Your Own Business'? It's a good ground cover that's super low maintenance. Just to clarify though, that’s the actual name of the plant, not me being rude! 😂 Definitely worth considering for your garden!

Carpet juniper could be a great option! It doesn't really flower, so it shouldn't attract too many insects. If you're okay with a little height, you might also want to try ornamental grasses like hakonechloa or carex. They're not too demanding and can add a nice look to your garden!

What about using chamomile? It’s low-growing and not very showy, so it shouldn’t draw in a ton of bugs. Plus, if you ever decide to harvest it, you can make some tea!
