I'm helping my mom find some perennials to plant in our front yard, and we're in a zone 6 area. We're primarily looking for plants that thrive in mostly shaded conditions and importantly, ones that are non-invasive to local ecosystems. I've done some research but keep stumbling upon plants that fit the zone criteria without checking if they're invasive or suitable for shade. Our ideal choices are brightly colored flowering perennials. We're located in southwest Michigan with sandy soil, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

You might want to check out the Prairie Moon Nursery website, or if you're near Detroit, the Detroit Wildflowers shop is great too! They're all about native plants, which is perfect for your needs. I've had a lot of success with both places!

Just a heads up, Prairie Moon is based in Minnesota, but they have a wide range of plants that are native to Michigan. Their website has a helpful map for each flower's origin, so you can be sure it's suitable. And if you go with Detroit Wildflowers, everything is local to Michigan, which completely takes the guesswork out of it!
