Hey everyone! I had a bit of a mishap today while carving a spoon, and ended up cutting my little and ring fingers. Had to get stitches at the ER, so now I'm out of commission for a few weeks! I know I need to be more careful and use the right tools, but I'm also looking for ways to protect myself in the future. I've seen options like cut-resistant gloves and finger tape online. How effective are these in preventing injuries like mine? Do you have any specific recommendations?

As a wood carver, I'd recommend checking out 'The Carving Glove Guy'—they have some decent products. I've used the Schwer A9 Slice Pro and G & F Products 1670M Kevlar gloves, both from Amazon. They’ve worked fine for me, though I didn’t have any close calls where I felt like I really needed them until one time I regretted not wearing my gloves! Also, when carving, I like to wrap my right thumb in cut-resistant tape—it's been super effective.
I've been using gloves that leave the tips of my thumb, index, and middle fingers exposed for ages, and I've never had any cut issues. Just be sure to choose gloves that suit your needs!
Cut-resistant gloves can be really helpful when using hand tools like you mentioned. Just remember to avoid gloves with power tools that have spinning blades, as they can catch the glove and pull your hand in, which is super dangerous.
Exactly! Protecting your hands is key, just know which tools to use them with.

Got it! I mainly use hand tools, so I think I’ll be good with gloves there.
