I'm trying to find some project ideas for personal items that are only meant to last a few years at most. A lot of the builds I come across online seem to be designed to last for generations, which isn't what I'm looking for. Does anyone know where I can find plans or ideas for more functional builds that aren't over-engineered?

You might want to check out Steve Ramsey's YouTube channel. He has some great courses for beginners that focus on projects using regular construction lumber and screws, which are perfect for what you need.
If you can clarify what you're thinking of making, I could help you figure out the cost differences between short-term and long-lasting methods. I've made plenty of projects before that were durable but eventually got passed on to friends or charity after I no longer needed them.
Honestly, if you're going to build something, why not just make it last? But if you're in a pinch and need to keep costs down, maybe stick to simpler designs. You can always get creative and half-ass it—a lot of times, you'll still end up with something that lasts longer than you expect!
That's true! I'm actually traveling right now and don't want to spend too much on materials since I might have to toss or give away my projects later.
