Looking for Shower Floor Ideas That Are Easy to Clean

I'm in the process of building a new bathroom and I'm really stumped on how to handle the shower floor. The shower space measures 3.5' x 6' and I want something that's easy to clean. I'm also considering adding a bench for comfort. I'm steering clear of tile for the shower floor since I'm tired of dealing with the grime that collects in grout lines. My town has hard water, and it tends to make grout look pretty awful.

I've already selected a matte medium teal tile for the walls and a light sand color for the flooring outside the shower. I'm thinking of going with white for the wall paint and the vanity top to keep things light and airy. Initially, I thought about a white one-piece acrylic shower tray, but my builder advised against it, suggesting I might need to use tile due to the larger size of the shower area. He did mention using dark grout as a solution, but I really dislike how that would contrast with my light color scheme.

I'd love to hear any suggestions on what would work best in my situation!

Just a tip: hard water doesn't directly turn grout black; it's mostly mildew and mold that do that. To combat this, try to keep your shower dry—leave doors open after you shower. And if you go for caulking, make sure to use a good 100% silicone in the corners to help prevent those issues.

Have you thought about using concrete for your shower floor? It's seamless, so you won’t have any grout lines to worry about—you know, no black stuff to clean! Plus, it can give a modern look if that's your style.

I just re-did a shower and used an Onyx solid surface pan instead of acrylic or tile. It can be made to fit almost any size or shape, which might be perfect for your situation. Also, it has a tile flange to work with backerboard if you decide to go that route later!
