Looking for Shower Pan Alternatives – Any Suggestions?

I'm looking to replace my old fiberglass tub insert from the 1960s, but it's too wide for a typical insert replacement. The only way to get it out would be to cut through the side of my house, which I really want to avoid. Instead, I'm considering turning the space into a full shower and possibly using a shower pan instead. Since my bathroom is on piers, I think traditional tile and cement wouldn't work well either. I was thinking about having a stainless steel shower pan custom-made at a fabrication shop. Does anyone have any better suggestions or ideas?

Definitely consider checking out some other alternatives before committing to a fab shop. There are also pre-made fiberglass or acrylic shower pans that might fit your space without too much modification. It could save a lot of time and effort. Plus, they come in various sizes so you might find one that works without needing major changes.

A stainless steel pan sounds like a solid choice! They’re durable and look good too. Just keep in mind the slope for drainage when designing it. Have you thought about a prefab option? Some companies make lightweight alternatives that can fit into tighter spaces, which could work for your setup. Might save you some hassles with custom fabrication!

It sounds tricky! Are you sure you need to go through all that just to remove the insert? I've seen lots of shower remodels here, and most didn't require such heavy demolition. Maybe check if you can take out the insert in smaller pieces instead? Sometimes a little creativity in the removal process can save a lot of hassle!

I've thought about that, but trust me, it’s really wedged in there. I’ve mapped it all out, and it just won’t fit through the door without cutting it up.
