Hey everyone! I recently bought a lovely house in Australia, but it's right on a busy road. There's pretty consistent traffic with an average of one car every 4 seconds, and the noise can be really irritating, especially during the quieter hours of the night. My bedroom and living area are facing the street, so I'm looking for ways to minimize the noise. The house is about 100 years old and has gaps under the skirting boards, plus the original windows and frames seem tricky for double glazing. I'm not sure how much sound comes through the gaps or the walls versus the windows. Can anyone share their soundproofing experiences or advise if it's worth getting a sound specialist to identify effective solutions?

Absolutely, insulating your walls can make a big difference! I faced a similar situation and it really helped reduce the noise from the street. Just be sure to check all the walls - it's usually most effective to insulate the walls facing the road. You might want to look into sealing up any gaps too, as they can carry a lot of sound.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely look into wall insulation. Did you just do the walls that face the road, or the whole house?
