Hey everyone! I'm on the lookout for ideas for really tall flowers or other plants that aren't bushes or trees. I had an amazing experience growing mammoth sunflowers this year—they were so much fun to walk among! I'm hoping to mix it up a bit and introduce some variety. I should mention that cutting the stalks was quite the task; I even had to break out a chainsaw because my clippers just couldn't handle it! Any suggestions?

You should definitely consider giant ironweed; it looks gorgeous mixed with sunflowers. My cutleaf coneflowers often reach 6-8 ft tall, and goldenrod does similarly! Both are beautiful native plants you might love.
If you have a moist area in your yard, you should check out Joe Pye Weed. It's fantastic! Plus, classic hollyhocks are known for their height and add a beautiful touch to any garden. Oh, and don’t forget about giant Rudbeckia varieties—they might be exactly what you’re after!
I have some mutant marigolds that hit about 5 ft tall, but honestly, I wouldn’t recommend them. They’ve thrown my whole garden off! On the other hand, I’ve had great success with really tall zinnias, cosmos, and dahlias—especially the dinner plate variety, which can really stand out if you want something hefty like sunflowers!
