Looking for Suggestions on Trees or Shrubs to Block Neighbor’s Window

Hey everyone! I'm considering a move and I have one concern about the garden at the new place. The neighbors have a direct sightline into my yard, and I'd like to plant something that will grow about 3-4 meters tall to help block that view. However, it needs to be around 2-3 meters away from the conservatory, so I don't want anything too aggressive. My garden faces SSW and I think the soil might be clay, though I'll confirm that later. I just want to clarify that the tree will be positioned away from the neighbor's house and windows, just enough to obstruct the view.

Are you leaning towards evergreen or deciduous? If you're looking for something less tall, a Himalayan birch could be a great fit, just make sure it's not a silver birch, which can grow really high. Alternatively, hawthorn or amelanchier could work. If you're in Cambridgeshire, I suggest checking out mailordertrees.co.uk or visiting Simpsons nursery at Fordham for advice. They offer excellent value! I also suggest considering a multi-stem tree instead of a single stem; they tend to stay shorter and spread out more, which might work well for your situation.

Have you thought about planting a sequoia? They’re quite impressive! However, make sure you have enough space for it, since they can grow quite large over time.

I’d recommend going with a rowan tree. You can find them a couple of meters tall, they're native, and they grow slowly, which means less work for you in the long run. Plus, they’re fantastic for birds and look great too!

Absolutely agree! Slow growth is crucial because you don’t want a tree that turns into a chore. Fast growers can turn into a headache, and nobody enjoys constantly pruning. A larger, slow-growing option is definitely the way to go!
