Looking for Tips on DIYing a Back Deck or Patio

Hey everyone! I'm gearing up to build a 10x10 back deck or patio myself and could use some advice. If I decide to go with wood for the deck, what type would hold up best against wear, tear, and rain? Alternatively, if I opt for a concrete patio, what kind of concrete should I choose?

I feel you on that! I've been thinking about starting a DIY deck for ages myself. It can be a really fun project if you take your time and plan it out well. Don't rush it and good luck!

You might want to skip the headache and consider using Trex; it's a great option for durability. For framing, pressure-treated lumber is a good choice. Just remember, any wood that is in contact with the ground should be rated for ground contact to ensure it lasts. Also, go for fasteners that are specifically designed for treated lumber, like stainless steel, since regular ones can corrode quickly and you'll end up replacing them sooner than you’d like.

Totally agree! The right fasteners will make a big difference in longevity. Plus, it’s best to plan for those rainy days!
