I'm getting into some furniture building, and I've been asked to replace a shelf for the iced tea carafe at my coffee shop. I feel confident making the shelf, but I could really use some advice on waterproofing it. The shelf will hold about a gallon of tea, and condensation is likely since it will be next to an ice maker. I've used spar urethane on outdoor furniture but that's about the extent of my experience. I'm open to trying epoxy if that's the way to go. Any suggestions would be super helpful!

You could try applying a few coats of acrylic or polyurethane to make the shelf water-resistant. It not only protects the wood but also makes cleaning a breeze! I learned the hard way and now I always add a couple coats of acrylic to anything I build. Wish I'd known when I made my first bookshelves! I plan to repaint them and use acrylic next time I move.
Thanks for the tips! I think I might go for polyurethane or polycrylic. It's not a fancy piece, but I want it to be durable and look good. I'll keep an eye on how it holds up and post some pictures later!
