I'm currently building a large walnut dining table and was originally planning to use a tabletop epoxy for the final coat. However, I've heard that epoxy doesn't adhere well to oil or wax-based stains. Does anyone have suggestions on what I should use instead? I'm located in Canada, so any brand recommendations that are available here would be appreciated. Thanks!

Honestly, I’ve heard that once your stain is fully dry (like, give it a solid 48 hours), you shouldn't have trouble with epoxy sticking. Just make sure to follow the drying time guidelines on whatever stain you choose! Good luck with your table!
Why not skip the stain altogether? Walnut is already a beautiful wood. If you're looking for a lighter look, maybe consider using a lighter wood like ash instead. Trust me, stained walnut can end up looking pretty bad.
True, but I was hoping a light stain would bring out the grain more. Wouldn’t that look nice?

Thanks for the tip! I'll make sure to wait before applying the epoxy.
