Looking to Cultivate an Edible Weed Patch – Any Tips or Experiences?

I'm considering creating a designated area in my backyard where I can grow edible weeds. I'm curious to hear about any suggestions, as well as the pros and cons of setting this up. What should I know before diving in?

You can grow a variety of edible plants like wild strawberries, dandelion, lamb's quarters, and purslane. It's a good idea to focus on what's native to your area because they tend to do well. Just keep in mind that some plants, like mustard garlic, can be invasive.

Chicory has been taking over in my yard too! The kids won't let me touch it!

Thanks for the tips!

I’ve been letting edible native weeds take over a corner of my yard, and it’s been great! Lambsquarters and purslane thrive there, plus wild chives. It’s funny, I tried transplanting them to my regular beds but they struggled. They seem to prefer the more neglected spots!

That sounds awesome! I just harvested a good batch of lambsquarters, too. They're great seed producers!

If I were picking from the weeds, I'd definitely recommend bloody dock, miner's lettuce, and purslane. Super tasty and nutritious!

I've definitely seen purslane around. Now I'll have to check out the other two!
