Looking to Start My Solar Setup – Any Advice?

Hey everyone! I'm new to solar energy and exploring the idea of adding some solar panels to my property. I have a west-facing section of my roof above the garage that seems like a great spot to begin. However, I'm pretty lost when it comes to building a setup and wiring it into my house. I'd love any recommendations on equipment and build specifications to kick things off!

Consider starting small with an off-grid setup in your garage. You can power tools, fans, or other small devices. Just a heads up, don’t go into this expecting huge savings—it’s mostly about the fun and convenience. My system only cost me about $700 so far! If you enjoy it, you can always expand later.

If you're leaning towards a DIY solution, I highly recommend looking into Enphase systems. They’re user-friendly, and while there is a bit of a price tag, their warranty and customer support are solid. Plus, check out Enphase University for some free online courses to guide you in becoming your own installer! Planning your system with OpenSolar can also be a big help since it's free to use.
