I'm a commercial electrician focusing on fire alarms, currently using the M18 Fuel tools. I recently upgraded to a Veto bag, which added about 10lbs to my load. To lighten my gear and avoid back pain, I'm considering switching to the M12 series with either HO 2.5 or HO 5.0 batteries. I'm specifically torn between the M12 Surge impact and the M18 Fuel impact. I found a Surge for $90 CAD that seems like a good deal, but I want to know if the Surge is actually worth it compared to the regular Fuel impact. Any experiences and thoughts on both would be really helpful!

The Surge is definitely quieter than the Fuel, but it's also not as strong. For jobs that require driving longer screws, you might find the Surge a bit lacking since its power is closer to setting 1 on a typical impact. However, for tight spaces, it’s much more pleasant to use without that annoying hammering noise. Just keep some ear protection handy for bigger jobs.
Yeah, if you're just doing light stuff, the Surge is great, but for anything heavy-duty, you might need to think twice.
