I'm in the market for an impact wrench and I'm torn between the M12 and M18 models. I'm planning to use it mainly for some basic car repairs at home, including replacing my intake manifold, but I'm open to tackling some heavier tasks down the line too. What are the key differences between these two options? And where can I find the best deals on either one? Feel free to ask me more about my needs!

I went with the M12 because it allows me to grab both a stubby impact and an electric ratchet, which is super handy. The stubby is pretty powerful and more compact than the M18's compact model. However, the M18 platform is cool too because it lets you use a wider range of tools, like the M18 inflator.
I really recommend against using an impact wrench directly on your intake manifold bolts. It's best to use it to loosen or pull out bolts, but tighten them by hand for accuracy and to avoid damaging your car.
Got it! I just plan to use it for loosening, so I guess that could work.
If you're dealing with salty winter roads, definitely consider the M18. If you live somewhere that doesn’t have that issue, the M12 should be fine. The mid-torque M18 is great for most jobs, and the high torque can tackle anything as long as space isn’t too tight.
Yeah, I’m in the rust belt... so that's something to think about. Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks for the insight! What's the main difference with the M18, besides the battery? I'm starting to lean towards the M12 now!
