Mid Torque vs Compact: Which is Better for Linemen?

I'm using 1/2 inch tools daily, especially for overhead or shoulder height work. I'm trying to decide if the weight savings of a compact tool outweighs the potential loss in power. I'm curious if anyone has a strong preference for one over the other based on their experience.

I'd recommend the new 3/8" m12 stubby. It's surprisingly powerful for its size! Not a fan of the 1/2" mid torque personally, but that's just my take—definitely worth considering.

The mid-torque was useful before the latest stubby models were released. In my experience, the stubby can handle everything the mid-torque can, just in a lighter design. I primarily use the new gen 3/8" and 1/2" stubbies with high-capacity batteries for most tasks. The mid-torque is just sitting in my drawer now!

Honestly, both options have similar specs. I suggest going with whatever battery platform you're already using. I've tried both, but once I got my hands on the stubbies, I ended up selling my mid torque.

You might want to drop by a store and ask to feel the weight of both tools in your hands. Sometimes they let you try them out with batteries attached—I've done it at Home Depot and Ace without any issues.

That’s a great idea! Being able to test the weight will help a lot in deciding.
