I'm looking for a mixing desk that can accept both XLR and line inputs simultaneously on the same channel. This setup is for a unique installation or experiment I have in mind. Basically, I want to connect a drum microphone via XLR and a drum machine output through the line input, and I want to hear them both mixed together on channel one. If there isn't such a mixer available, can anyone suggest how I might modify an existing mixer to achieve this? Perhaps bridging the switch that selects between XLR and line or adding a trim pot to lower the signal if needed?

If you're okay with adjusting the line level and don’t need too much EQ, you could try using the channel patch point. A TRS plug with the tip and ring shorted could complete the signal path. Although I've only used this as an output before, I think it could work for your input setup too! Just bear in mind, I prefer analog sound for these things, and that could work better in your case!
Using separate channels might be an easier route since most decent mixers have both input types. But if you really need both inputs on one channel, you're looking at a special use case. Can you share why you prefer it that way? It might help in suggesting alternatives!
Good point! I actually want to reduce the number of channels I use and simplify the setup during performances. Combining these signals on a single channel makes everything more manageable for me.
That's a great idea! I love the analog sound too, and trying this method sounds fun! Thanks for the suggestion.
