Moving My New Bandsaw – Any Tips?

Hey everyone! I just picked up a used Delta 28-276 bandsaw and I'm trying to work out the best way to transport it. The bandsaw is currently in a small shed on a wooden dolly with some caster wheels, but there's a little step (about 6 inches) to get it down to the ground. I'm going to take my pickup truck and was thinking of renting some loading ramps and a heavy-duty appliance dolly. I've got a bunch of moving straps, too, and my brother's helping me out. My main concern is whether I should unbolt it from the cast iron base before moving and how best to lower it out of the shed without it tipping over. Any advice would be appreciated!

It's not too heavy at 201 lbs. Just grab a friend and go for it! Piece of cake with two people.

I suggest renting an enclosed trailer instead of a pickup if you can. I left my saw standing up and strapped it down so it wouldn’t tip. It’s much easier to manage a big tool in a trailer than lifting it in and out of a truck bed. Less strain on the back!

I moved mine in a trailer by tipping it on its side with a moving blanket, which made it much easier to load. For that step in your shed, you can ease the wheels down one at a time. Just be careful and it should work out fine!

I actually have that same bandsaw! You could break it down into smaller parts to make it easier. Remove the blade, the table, and even the motor if you want to fit it all in a car. Just be careful with the trunions as they can break easily. Hoisting might be best for bigger pieces, but you’ve got options!

Do you think it would fit in a hatchback like my brother's Mazda 3?

I did something similar last week; rented a dolly and ramps. Two of us loaded it into the pickup and secured it down. It looked a bit funny on the drive home but everything went smoothly!
