Mower Recommendations for a Small Wisconsin Yard

I'm looking for some advice on choosing a mower for my 1/4 acre lot in Wisconsin, where about 1/10 of that is grass that I need to cut. I usually keep the grass at around 4 inches tall and have some denser patches with dandelions. I'm into mulching only, and I currently have two 9ah flexvolt batteries and some older 5ah ones. I'm also wondering about EGO mowers, especially since I've heard they mulch better than DeWalt's options. What's the deal with the 60v vs. 20v mowers? Do you think the extra power from the 60v models makes a significant difference? I've noticed that the 60v mowers are harder to find locally compared to the dual 20v models. Any real-world users out there with recommendations?

I own an older 2x20v DeWalt push mower, and while it can handle mulching, I had to swap in a heftier blade to keep it running at full speed. I usually burn through four 10ah batteries for my small yard. If I were you, I'd look for a used mower on Facebook Marketplace without batteries; they're pretty cheap, around $50-80. BUT, I think EGO might be the better choice if your grass is thick like mine; it just seems to pack more power!

Thanks for the thoughts! I’m leaning towards either a battery Toro or EGO depending on who has better sales closer to Father's Day. Appreciate the insight!

Happy to help! I think whichever you choose, you won't regret going with EGO or a solid Toro!

EGO is definitely the way to go for an electric push mower! I recommend the Select Cut XP models with the 10AH batteries, they're powerful and should handle your entire lawn on one charge. Of course, you won’t get the same power as a gas mower, but they do a great job overall, especially on those thicker longer grasses. Just keep in mind that the max cutting height is set at 4 inches, so plan accordingly!

I'm not buying any DeWalt mowers unless they come out with a 60v dual battery model. They did it with their snowblower, so fingers crossed they do the same soon!

I've tried both the 2x20 (model 255) and the newer 60v (model 700) EGO. Honestly, the 60v is better, but not dramatically so. I don’t bag my clippings, but I've heard the new DeWalt models do better than their older ones, though they still can't quite match EGO's performance. EGO has more blade options too, which is a plus! I get it if you're leaning towards EGO since the battery compatibility with DeWalt can be a hassle if you have a lot of their tools. Just be sure to consider the use of a higher lift blade for better performance.
