My Door Handle Bolt is Hitting the Trim—What Can I Do?

I'm having an issue with my Emtek door handle. The latch bolt sticks out about a quarter inch too far and is bumping against the door trim. I've taken the handle apart to see if I could make any adjustments, but no luck so far. Any tips on how to fix this?

It sounds like you might be able to just sand down the end if it’s hitting the trim. Grinding it with a Dremel should work, but be extra cautious. Some folks have even wrapped the bolt in a cloth while they sand it down to avoid slipping and hitting anything else.

If the bolt is too long, shortening it is definitely a possibility! You could use a Dremel to grind it down, just be really careful not to damage it. Make sure to measure it precisely so you don’t take off too much—maybe take off a little and check to see if it fits better.

Yeah, good point! Taking small amounts off at a time is key. Just clamp the bolt down securely while you work on it—it'll give you a better grip.
