My Electric Meter Box is An Eyesore – What Can I Do?

I recently had an electrician install a new meter box that was supposed to go on the side of my house. However, while I was at work, they called to say it had to be placed on the front instead. Now I come home to this huge cabinet just stuck on the front of my house, and it's really ugly! I feel misled because they could have kept it on the side with just a bit more paperwork. Should I insist they fix it, or is it better to just accept it and try to landscape around it?

I get that this is frustrating, but have you thought about painting the box to match your house? Or you could plant a bush in front of it, keeping access in mind of course. Just be careful about hiding important infrastructure that might need to be serviced later.

I would recommend pushing them to relocate it at no extra charge. If you have documentation showing where it should've been placed, use that to your advantage. It's not fair to settle for something that clearly should have been approved first. Stick to your guns!

You should definitely make them fix it! That front positioning is not just a nuisance; it's visually unappealing and out of place. Next time, maybe you can stay home or have someone else there to oversee things while contractors are working. Just sayin'!
