My fascia screen fell into the attic, how can I cover it up from the outside?

I've got vent holes in my fascia with a metal screen inside the attic to keep critters out. Somehow, one of the screens fell inside the attic, and now a bird is trying to build a nest in there. I managed to block that off with some duct tape and cardboard on the outside. I thought I could crawl into the attic to reattach the screen, but it's really cramped and there's a big support beam in the way, so that's not happening. I ordered some hole screen plug things, but they're slightly under 2 inches, and they won't fit. I'm looking for ideas on how to cover this hole from the outside without it looking awful since it's right at the front of my house, above the garage. My spouse isn't keen on stapling anything because they think it'll look bad. I also considered making the holes larger to fit the screen plugs, but I have a drill with a circular saw attachment, and I'm not sure how to use that properly.

You could core a larger hole for the plug to fit, or go with the mesh and frame idea like the other person suggested. For a cleaner look, if you want it to blend in, try cutting a patch that fits perfectly and screw it into a backer board that you tuck inside the hole, then fill it with wood filler and paint it.

Why not staple a new piece of mesh over the hole and frame it with some molding? You could paint it to match the house, so it looks intentional instead of just a patch.

I think I get what you're saying about your drill. If you have a hole saw bit, you can use just that part without the pilot bit. It'll work even on an existing hole! Just make sure it’s the right size to fit the plug you ordered.

Oh, that’s super helpful! I didn't realize I could use it like that. Thanks for clarifying, I'm not the best at DIY stuff!
