My Haworthia Is Turning Brown and Squishy – What Should I Do?

I have a Haworthia that was doing great at my old apartment, but since moving to a place with a lot more sunlight, it's turned brown and gone squishy. I thought it might be overwatering, but there was no root rot when I replanted it, and I wasn't watering it much. I've now moved it inside to reduce direct sunlight. What do you think went wrong, and how can I save my plant? I've also included a second picture of a baby plant with its roots for reference.

It sounds like your Haworthia may have gotten a case of sunburn from the sudden increase in light without getting used to it. This can happen if succulent plants are exposed to more intense light too quickly. While it may not be fatal, you'll want to keep it in a spot with less direct sunlight to help it recover. With a bit of care, it should start to grow new healthy leaves and shed the damaged ones!

I agree with the sunburn diagnosis. It’s really common to see that kind of damage when plants are moved from low-light areas to bright sunny spots without a gradual transition. Since you’ve already moved it indoors, just keep it there for now and monitor its health—make sure to give it some time to rebound!

Thanks for the advice! I hope it pulls through. I'll keep it indoors and see how it does.
