My House is Tilting! Who Should I Contact for Help?

I've got a craftsman-style house that was added onto over the years, but the front half is noticeably tilting forward compared to the back half. The oldest section dates back to the 1920s, and it seems the previous owners tried to patch things up by adding some support pillars in the basement, but the foundation has multiple cracks and is sinking. I'm guessing we need new columns set deep into the ground to help level it out, but I'm not sure who I should call for this kind of problem.

You should definitely start by contacting a structural engineer. They can assess the issue and confirm whether there's a real structural problem. Once they have a better understanding of the situation, they can guide you on how to proceed and possibly recommend some local contractors for the actual repair work. Just make sure the engineer has experience with residential buildings, as that's super important!

Totally agree! It’s the best way to get a clear idea of what needs to be done.

A structural engineer is your go-to here. They'll check if it’s a serious structural issue and can direct you on the best steps for repairs. Look for one that lists residential work on their site. Good luck with it!

Yeah, having someone with residential expertise can really make a difference!
