My Impact Driver Stopped Working – What Should I Do?

I was using my Milwaukee 2953-20 impact driver when it suddenly lost power. I checked the battery, and although it still had three bars left, the impact driver started popping and smoking when I pressed the button to check the battery level. It's only about 8 months old, and I primarily use it for sheet metal work. What's the best way for me to get it warrantied or exchanged?

Honestly, I’d stick with the warranty route. Don’t try to fix it yourself; just see if you can swap it out. I had an old 1/2” impact that I sent in for repair. It was pretty worn out, but as long as the warranty tag is visible and within the 5-year mark, they honored it even though it was pretty beat up.

Yeah, I had a similar experience with mine! It's like they expect it to look worn after so much use. Just make sure you send it in soon!

You should definitely give 1-800-SAWDUST a call. If you bought it from Home Depot and have the receipt, they might just exchange it for you since it's only been 8 months. Just a heads up, this particular model has had its share of issues, so you're not alone. I found this video that talks about some common problems with it: [The Least Reliable Impact & How to Fix it](https://youtu.be/Lu1hHOSk1dA). Good luck!

I totally get what you mean. I thought I had mine for about the same time, but when I checked the receipt, it turned out I bought it in March. Fingers crossed the exchange goes smoothly! I cannot believe mine died right after I watched that video!
