My Neighbor’s Water Runoff Is Flooding My Yard—What Can I Do?

I've been having a serious issue with my neighbor. They keep dumping a lot of water into my yard since I'm at a lower elevation. I'm really worried because they might start redirecting their front gutters and downspouts to the back of their house, which would flood my backyard even more. Right now, they're already dumping their back gutters and downspouts in my yard. It seems unfair that they're allowed to do this, right? Their front gutters and downspouts would only be about 15 feet away from my home instead of going to the street. Can I get a lawyer involved to address this situation? It feels excessive that I have to deal with the water runoff from both the front and the back of their house.

You might want to reach out to code enforcement about this. If they’re violating any local laws, it could help your case.

Have you thought about talking to your neighbor about this? It seems like a reasonable first step since water buildup can really affect your property.

Yeah, I did talk to them, but they just act like it’s fine and have no other way to manage it.
