I'm trying to replace my old kitchen sink, but it looks like my new one doesn't fit at all! My current sink hole measures about 23 3/4" x 20 7/8", but the flanges on this new sink are about 1/2" wider in each direction. Did they change the standard sink sizes? Is there a way I can find a sink that will fit? Also, I tried using a reciprocating saw to widen the hole, but it just chipped the Formica. Would a jigsaw work better, or do you have other suggestions?

You can also use a router with a fence arrangement if you're comfortable with that. It's what a lot of countertop pros use for straight cuts. Just make sure you have a fine tooth jigsaw blade if you're going that route too!
Look for down-cut blades for your jigsaw! They cut on the downstroke, which means the teeth are reversed and they support the Formica to prevent chipping. A fine tooth down-cut blade will provide cleaner cuts too.
I had to do the same thing with my countertop and it worked perfectly!
If you're using a jigsaw, try getting a fine tooth blade and put some tape on the edges of where you're cutting. This helps reduce chipping since the tape provides some support. Just let the blade do the work without pushing too hard!
