My New LVP Floor Is Super Uneven—What Can I Do?

I recently had a contractor remove my old flooring, which was glued down, and install new Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) flooring with underlayment to help with noise and moisture. Now that the work is done, I've noticed that my living room floor is really uneven, with noticeable peaks and valleys. The contractor claims it's outside the scope of their work to level the floor and that I'd have to pay extra for that. I feel like they should have informed me about potential issues before removing the old flooring. Has anyone experienced something like this? What are my options?

Man, that's a rough situation! It seems pretty likely they knew about the unevenness beforehand but didn’t say anything. They should've included leveling in the quote from the start. By the way, are they a licensed contractor? Just checking since that could matter for accountability.

It sounds like the contractor should have warned you about the uneven floor before starting the installation. They should've presented you with options for dealing with it like self-leveling or grinding. Personally, I'd recommend having them redo it properly. Sure, it might cost more, but make sure they don't charge you extra for taking out the LVP again—that's on them!
