My Pothos is Turning Yellow – What Did I Do Wrong?

Hey everyone! I could really use some advice here. A few years back, I propagated a pothos and it was thriving. Recently, I decided to repot it from a small 4-inch pot to a 6-inch one, adding a moss pole for support. However, now it seems to be struggling, with the lower leaves turning yellow and dying. I first suspected overwatering or poor drainage, but I'm using a clear nursery pot with holes and I let it drain thoroughly when I water, which I do every 10-14 days. The soil feels pretty moist right now. Should I be worried that I used Miracle-Gro indoor potting soil? Any suggestions on what might be going wrong?

I faced a similar issue before. It's super common with Miracle-Gro; it holds onto moisture way too long. Maybe add some perlite or switch to a soil that drains better next time!

It sounds like you're likely overwatering your pothos. Since the soil is still wet, it doesn't need any more water for now. Just give it a break from watering and see how it reacts. Make sure to check the drainage as well, since that's key to keeping it healthy.

I’d like to add that while you're not watering too frequently, the soil might be retaining way too much moisture. I sometimes use Miracle-Gro too, but I mix in perlite to prevent it from becoming waterlogged. In hot climates, my pothos dry out a lot faster and can handle being watered 1-2 times a week without any yellowing. It really sounds like an issue with the soil.

Make sure to check out the images to see what's happening. Sometimes just a little adjustment with watering can make a big difference! Good luck!
