My Roommate Vacuumed Up Window Lead Paint Chips! What Should I Do?

Hey everyone, I need some advice. I recently discovered that my roommate vacuumed the inside of our window, which had some lead paint chips in it due to weathering. The vacuum they used doesn't have a HEPA filter, and I'm worried that this could have aerosolized the lead paint in my room. What steps should I take now to ensure I'm safe?

You're fine; don’t worry too much! Unless your roommate sanded a lot of paint and made a big mess, what they vacuumed is probably not a huge concern. Just make sure to clean up any visible chips.

For what it’s worth, the main thing is just not to eat any of the paint chips. If you’re really concerned, do a deep clean with a wet rag and toss any chips you find in the trash. A lot of folks grew up around lead paint and turned out alright, but it’s always best to be cautious!

Lead paint really isn’t dangerous unless ingested. The small flakes that have fallen typically settle and don't pose a risk just from touch. You should vacuum your room again using a better filter if you can, and wipe down surfaces to be safe. Honestly, I wouldn’t stress too much about it.
