My Shower Handle is Loose – What Can I Do?

Hey everyone, I've got a bit of a problem with my shower handle - it moves around freely, and it seems like the threading is messed up. My handyman suggested that I buy a new handle setup for my Kohler shower system, but the replacement I tried from Amazon didn't fit right. He mentioned two options: either I glue the handle onto the threading or I pay a whopping $2000 for a plumber to install a new shower system, plus some drywall work. Is there any other way I could fix this without going to those extremes? Check out the video I posted for reference: https://imgur.com/a/UEe7Y4u

Before you go for the glue or spend a fortune, try unscrewing the handle first. It might just need a cartridge replacement! Look for a screw on the right side of the handle, and see if you can tighten or loosen it with a hex or Allen key. If it’s spinning but not turning on water, tightening it could fix the issue. If you need more info, check for any brand markings on the handle or trim - that might help you figure out what part you need if it really is broken!

That makes sense, but the handyman mentioned that to replace the cartridge, I'd have to identify the exact model. Right now, all I know is it's Kohler, which complicates things.

Honestly, a new shower system seems like an overkill just for a loose handle. Have you tried tightening the handle first? If the handle just spins without turning on any water, it might just need some tightening. If needed, you could check a hardware store for parts, as basic components typically don’t cost much, maybe around $100, but if it gets complicated, it could lead to bigger expenses.

Yeah, I wish I knew the exact model! It's frustrating because I can't seem to find the right part with just the Kohler brand name.
