My Sink Clogs Up But Then Drains Completely – What Does That Mean?

I've been dealing with a clogged bathroom sink that I recently tried to fix with a snake. After using it, the sink drains perfectly when I run the hot water fully with the stopper open. However, I've noticed it's starting to clog up again. Here's what's happening: when I leave the hot water running, the sink gradually fills up to about 80%. Then, out of nowhere, the sink drains completely, but soon after, it starts filling up again in a cycle. It seems like there's a blockage that opens when enough water backs up, sort of like a flush, but it's not re-clogging as soon as it drains. Could this behavior point to anything specific about what's causing the clog?

Your sink's stopper setup might be causing issues too. Look underneath and see if you can find that extra lever connected to the trap. If you can remove it, you might want to clean it out completely because those parts can collect a bunch of gunk that snaking doesn’t really fix. Cleaning them up might solve your problem!

I cleaned the lever assembly last time, but I'll give it another shot just in case. Thanks a lot for that suggestion!
