Hey everyone! I had a bit of a scare while trying to whip up a late-night snack. My stove wouldn't ignite; it just kept clicking with a faint smell of gas. I turned it off, tried again, and then it lit up fine. The gas smell disappeared pretty quickly, but I've been reading and realized that maybe what I did wasn't the safest move? I'm really new to all this home stuff, and I'm wondering if I should call the gas company or if this is just a normal situation. Any advice would be appreciated!

Honestly, if you didn’t blow up, you’re probably in the clear! Sometimes you just get a bigger fireball than normal, which can singe your eyebrows if you're not careful. Just remember, if you ever smell gas again, open up some windows, keep away from flames, and head outside just to be safe before calling someone. It’s always better to be safe!
I've been in the same boat! My stove's igniter stopped working well, and now it sometimes clicks without sparking. When that happens, gas does escape, which is what you sensed. If it's a recurring issue, you might want to keep a lighter handy for those times when the igniter fails. Just a backup plan! Also, I'm curious, what did you read about this being a no-no?
I read somewhere that leaving gas on without it igniting could lead to dangerous situations, so I got a bit scared. Thanks for clarifying!
Thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely do that next time. Safety first!
