I've got a situation with my window screen at home. I live in a bit of a cluttered house that also has mice, and I keep my window open all the time for some fresh air since there's no AC. A little while ago, while I was away, my mom accidentally closed the window on a mouse, and to escape, that little guy chewed through my steel window screen, leaving a big hole. Since then, I've tried a few fixes: taped it up with duct tape multiple times, used mesh tape specifically meant for screen repairs, and even tried patching up the hole with steel mesh from an old screen. Unfortunately, all these attempts have failed miserably and the patches didn't last long at all — I'm talking less than 4 hours! I'm at a loss for what to do next. I can't keep the window closed as summer is coming, and I really want to fix this. Do I have to get a whole new screen, or is there a way to patch it that might actually work? Can I even solder something on it, or use some kind of plastic cover instead?

Honestly, replacing the screen might be your best bet. It’s usually not too expensive, and it’ll save you from constantly patching it up. Just keep in mind that until you deal with the mouse problem in your home, they’ll keep finding ways in.
Have you tried using steel wool to patch the hole? It’s designed to keep mice out and might hold up better than other materials. You can find it pretty easily online or at a hardware store. Just shove it in the hole and see if that works!

Yeah, I’ve heard that’s a good option! Mice hate gnawing through it.
