Need Advice on Choosing Between DWS780 and DWS716XPS Miter Saws

Hey everyone! I'm planning to buy a miter saw and I'm caught between the DWS780 and the DWS716XPS. I'm really keen on getting one with a shadow line feature. My main question is whether the sliding function of the DWS780 is necessary for my projects. I'll be using this saw for home projects like building a dog house, a table, and some shelves. I'd love to hear your experiences and thoughts on this!

If money isn’t a big deal for you, I’d say the sliding function adds a ton of versatility to your projects! It really opens up your options for larger cuts.

It really depends on whether you’ll be moving the saw around or keeping it in a fixed spot. If it’s going to be stationary, definitely go for the slider. But if you're planning to transport it often, a regular miter saw might be better. Also, if you want a slider, check out the Bosch Glide – the sliding mechanism is way better than the rails on the Dewalt, and it’s not that much more expensive!

I own the DWS780, and while it's powerful, it does weigh about 60 lbs. Just something to keep in mind if you're planning to move it around. Also, it tends to throw sawdust everywhere since the dust control isn’t great, so if you’re using it indoors or in a tight space, the Bosch Glide might be a better choice since it’s designed with better dust control.

I've got the DWS780, and it’s really impressive! I can’t see myself going back to a non-slider now. The sliding feature gives you more flexibility for different cuts, so consider if that’s something you’ll need.

I’ve been using the DWS716XPS for years and I absolutely love it! That light feature is a game changer for making precise cuts, especially on trim or crown molding. I bought the DWS780 a couple years back for the sliding capability, but honestly, I find I don’t use it much. If I had to choose again, I'd stick with the 716XPS.
