Need Advice on Customizing an Aquarium Stand

Hey everyone! I'm getting a tank next month that's a bit of an unusual size, and I'm looking for some advice on the stand. The base of my tank measures 122cm x 47cm, but the stand I'm considering is only 120cm x 41cm. I'm thinking about buying the smaller stand, then replacing the top to fit my tank and reinforcing it with 2x4s at the back and in the cupboard areas. Do you think this would work? Any insights?

Instead of modifying a smaller stand, have you considered building a custom one? Sometimes, starting from scratch gives you more flexibility and you can ensure it's perfectly sized for your tank. Plus, you can really customize it to match your decor. Just a thought!

Building it yourself sounds fun! Just be sure to account for the weight distribution and maybe use a solid wood type for those 2x4 reinforcements.

That stand could work if you reinforce it well! Just make sure the total weight capacity is enough for your tank when filled. If it's a 250L aquarium, that's about 400kg, so you really need to ensure everything is sturdy and well-supported. Personally, I think it's fine to leave the original top in place if it looks good and won't interfere with your tank's stability. Just double-check the weight limits before you go for it!

Yeah, just adding a bigger top is smart as long as you secure it properly. I'd also look into some extra bracing just to be safe!
