Hey folks, I'm trying to put up a fence on my property in the mountains where the ground is super rocky. I got some quotes for professional installation, but they're way out of my budget. So, I'm considering a DIY approach, but I really have no experience with fence building. The rocky terrain is making it tough to dig, and I'll have to rent tools, which adds to the challenge. I definitely don't want a flimsy fence that won't hold up in storms, so I'm looking for solid advice. Can anyone share tips for dealing with rocky ground or suggest methods that don't involve a lot of heavy digging? I'd really appreciate any personal experiences or insights!

What type of fence are you planning? For barbed wire, you might be able to just pound the T-posts into the ground if it's not solid rock. If it is really tough, think about renting a Hilti hammer drill to make holes for the posts first. I've put up a few miles of barbed wire in Colorado, so I've got some experience here. Let me know if you need more tips based on what fence style you're going for!

I’m in Switzerland, and the ground is really solid here too. I’m building a fence to keep dogs and unwanted visitors out, so it has to be secure. Barbed wire isn’t allowed, but I think I can use wire mesh or wood instead.
