Need Help Choosing Between Two Window Replacement Options

I'm in the process of replacing all 21 double-hung windows in my home, which were originally put in during the 1980s. I've got two options: the first is a larger company offering Okna series 500 windows for $20,000, and the second is a small business that my parents have had good experiences with, using Alside Mezzo windows for $15,000. I've read that Okna might be a bit better in terms of energy efficiency, but Alside Mezzo has solid reviews for durability and reliability. I'd love some advice on which route to take!

Honestly, it really depends on your situation. If your current window sashes or frames are in bad shape, replacing them might be the best call. On the flip side, if you can reglaze your current ones, that could save a lot of hassle and cash. Just make sure your frames are in decent shape if you go that route!

Reglazing can help but remember, if your balances or wood frames are shot and weather stripping isn't tight, it won’t solve those issues. Replacement might really be worth considering.

That $6,000 gap is significant! Think about it like this: in ten years, will that difference matter compared to the quality and comfort you might get from the higher-priced windows? Sometimes, saving a few bucks upfront can lead to regret later on. Always consider future you's opinion!

If you're open to it, I recommend looking into tilt-and-turn European windows. In my experience, they're far superior to many US-made options. They seal better and are designed to function differently. Just be sure to check your wall's R-value too, because having windows that aren't more efficient than your walls can lead to condensation issues.
