Hey everyone! I'm a beginner in gardening and could use your advice. I have a stone wall in my garden that's 4ft tall on one side and 5ft on the other. My neighbor's garden is actually 1ft taller than mine, which means they can see right into my yard and it's not very private. I'm thinking about adding a tree or possibly a privet to make the wall feel a bit taller. I'd love the plant to have a straight trunk and then bush out at the top so I can still see the wall beneath it—I'm really fond of its style! Also, side note: with my neighbor's garden being taller, what's the max height I can legally grow this privet to? I've stumbled upon conflicting information online. Any tips would be greatly appreciated, thanks a lot!

You might want to consider putting up some trellis above your wall. I had a similar situation where my backyard was a bit low compared to my neighbor’s. I attached a 3ft trellis to my wall which worked perfectly! I planted Clematis Montana along it and trained the vines to spread out. After a few years, it created a lovely, lush screen without hiding the wall completely. Trust me, you'll love the privacy and the blooms you'll get in spring!
Definitely go for Clematis Montana! It's fast-growing and will do just what you're looking for.
Check out standard or half standard trees or hedging options. They can give you the height you want without completely blocking the view of your wall. Just pick a variety that you like and you’ll be good to go!

Thanks for the suggestion! I love the idea of a trellis and that plant looks beautiful!
